A damp and chilly walk

My friend and I met up for a last catch-up for a while, at least. I know am able to see one other person for a walk etc. during lockdown, but we live at opposite ends of the city and a drive to meet a friend for a dog walk unfortunately doesn’t get classed as ‘essential travel’ ,haha.

So we met up at Haldon Forest, both of us wrapped up warmly. It’s quite high up on Haldon and always gets the worst of the weather. The first part of the walk was amongst the firs. Very dark, dank and gloomy, not that we minded, we were too busy putting the world to rights...like you do! Bruce was oblivious to the miserable conditions, as he disappeared into the undergrowth and reappeared further down the path. He must have run twenty times the distance we walked!

Shortly before we reached the refreshments kiosk, the terrain opened up and the different trees showed off their autumn glory. Some of the colours in the forest at the moment are truly beautiful. You will notice that Bruce is still running his socks off!

We treated ourselves to steaming hot coffee and a rather lovely slice of coffee cake, while ‘Auntie’ Ann gave Bruce some gravy bones. It was a brisk walk back to our cars, just before the rain came....again and off to our respective homes.
I’ll miss our weekly catch ups and Bruce will miss his gravy bones, but all for the greater good :)
Until tomorrow, cheerio for now, Ann x

  1. You were lucky to be able to enter the cafe. We haven't been able to do that for the last few weeks. Our numbers are stabilizing but still too high.

    1. We had to order our coffees etc. at a kiosk outside and then sat on benches under a large wooden built gazebo. They haven’t had the cafe open to sit in since March. There are also picnic tables in the open, which we have enjoyed on other occasions, but it was far to wet yesterday. Now your figures are stabilising, hopefully they will now start to decrease, Chris. Stay safe x

  2. I am glad that you got to meet up with your friend before going into lockdown.

Bruce looks like he had a wonderful run.

    God bless.

    1. He did, Jackie! He’s getting on in age now, just over 10, not that you’d know the way he runs around. I expect he spent the rest of the day snoozing on my friend’s sofa, haha!

  3. My best friend and I did the same yesterday, Ann, also for the last time until lockdown ends. We didn't have the coffee and cake, though!

    1. I’m glad you had chance to catch up with your friend too, Sooze. A little time away from being nurse, for you. Best wishes to you and your hubby xx

  4. Like you I took advantage of a last meet up and walk with a friend. I know we can still meet with one person outdoors but the chances of it being dry and both being available will reduce. Love coffee cake.

    1. This lockdown will be quite different to the last, being different seasons. Fingers crossed for a dry four weeks!

  5. We are allowed to travel in order to exercise. You should be able to continue to walk with your friend as long as you socially distance. X

    1. I did check the travel ‘rules’ and this is what it said regarding exercise,

“to spend time or exercise outdoors - this should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)“
So I’m not sure if I can use this reason, as we’re surrounded by open spaces where we live! Halfway through last lockdown they said we could drive to somewhere, as long as the journey was a lot shorter than the time exercising. This would obviously be the case, but that hasn’t been mentioned yet. Gosh, it’s so ambiguous! I think I’ll play it by ear and see what happens in the next couple of weeks :)
