Another bloomin’ dismal day!

Another grey, damp, dismal day! I’m so looking forward to a crisp, cold, sunny day.....one day.

The past two days have been pretty busy. Thursday, I met my friend for our weekly catch up. We had a breakfast at the Fisherman’s Cott, which is situated in Bickleigh,  right on the river Exe....

The Cott, serves lovely food and is extremely welcoming of dogs (gravy bones in a kilner jar on the bar).  After our rather delicious breakfast, we went back over the bridge in the photo, to Bickleigh Mill on the other side. We had a mooch around there, lots of local crafts/gifts as well as the more well known Wrendale, Emma Bridgwater etc. I was very restrained and didn’t buy anything, just nice to window shop! On the way back to Exeter, we popped into a little farm shop and I bought some enormous pork chops for our evening meal. Well, for my hubby and son. I was good and had salad, as I had a big breakfast.

When home, I baked an Orange and fruit cake for Blue Cross...

while Karma took advantage of a very temporary sunny windowsill....

Yesterday was a very windy Blue Cross day. Lovely puss cats to socialise with. I know you shouldn’t have favourites, but everyone has and mine is a gorgeous black cat called Colin. He’s large, gregarious and playful, but is so gentle with a huge purr! I also made up three empty pens, ready for whoever comes next. I like to make the beds and hidey boxes really comfy. They must be so confused and scared when they first arrive, so the least I can do is ensure that they have a lovely squishy bed to curl up in.

So after quite a busy week,  I’m not doing much today at all. Hubby left at 6.30 this morning for work and won’t be home until about 9pm and my son is at his girlfriend’s parents (it’s his girlfriend’s 21st birthday celebrations). My plan is to pop out to the shops in a mo and then have a nice relaxing day! Perhaps I’ll go through some recipes for next week.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, cheerio for now, Ann x

  1. The cake looks delicious. I'm sure the staff at Blue Cross always look forward to your visits.
It's great how you volunteer but how do you manage to avoid taking any of the residents home with you? 🐱🐱🐱
    I think I'd end up with a houseful. X

    1. Must admit Jules, Friday Blue Cross bakes has become a thing now. They are my guinea pigs sometimes though for a new bake.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, Karma is a bit of a ‘I hate all other animals’ diva, so we don’t have a choice! Lord only knows what our house would be like if she was accepting! X

  2. Hope you have a great day, as much as we love our family, it's great to have a day at home alone.

  3. This weather is really getting me down now Ann. This morning's forecast was for heavy wind and light rain....we got really heavy rain and hail.
It's now just grey and windy with the occasional glimpse of a bit of sun.
I think if we had a bigger windowsill I would be doing a Karma and lying on it just to get warm.
Love that you go the extra mile to make your Blue Cross guests welcome and comfortable.
Staying put here and not doing much either :)
    Hugs-x-

  4. It’s so miserable, isn’t it Sheila! Haha, I now have visions of Andy building a bigger windowsill/window seat so you can do a Karma! xx

  5. I had trouble finding Bickleigh in my handy UK Road Atlas as there are two in Devon. Finally figured out the one you visited. Thanks for the lovely photos.

  9. Your gorgeous Collin looks calm and gentle, love those grey eyes. You need some massage and relaxation after a pretty busy week. The orange fruit cake looks yummy and hope it’s gonna be tasty. Glad to know that you had a good time with your friend with a scrumptious breakfast and did window shopping !!! Take care . Blessed Week ahead.

    1. The Blue Cross team loved the cake and Colin has now gone to a loving new home. My new favourite is a gorgeous black and white cat called Felix, a playful, gregarious cat who also loves a cuddle. :)

  11. Colin looks handsome, Ann! I don't own pets, but there are plenty of stray cats in our neighbourhood. It is also very thoughtful of you to bake a cake for the Blue Cross.

    1. t didn’t take Colin long to find a loving home! It’s hard sometimes, working in animal rescue, so I like to take a cake or cupcakes up to them on my volunteer day. Obviously at the moment, as we’re on lockdown, there is no volunteering, but as soon as it is lifted, I will be back up there
